Janzi Resonance — Ssewa Ssewa x Prof. Joewi
Ssewa Ssewa and Prof. Joewi Announce Groundbreaking New EP: A Futuristic Fusion of Uganda’s Patented Janzi Instrument and Global Electronic Beats KAMPALA, UGANDA — Renowned Ugandan multi-instrumentalist and cultural innovator Ssewa Ssewa has teamed up with visionary producer and DJ Prof. Joewi to announce their collaborative EP, Resonance. The project marks a historic sonic milestone, fusing the rich, organic melodies of Uganda’s first officially patented instrument—the Janzi—with the driving, hypnotic frequencies of modern Afro, House, Tech, and electronic beats. The EP represents a seamless bridge between ancient African oral traditions and the cutting-edge global dance floor. At the heart of the project is the Janzi, a 22-string harp-like instrument invented and patented by Ssewa Ssewa in 2017. Built entirely of wood with guitar-style tuning pegs to make it airport-safe and tour-ready, the Janzi features a dual-neck design tuned to both diatonic and pentatonic scales. This structural innovation allows it to fluidly transition between traditional folk melodies and contemporary Western scales. When paired with Prof. Joewi’s masterful curation of electronic club culture, the Janzi’s crystalline, kora-like resonance is recontextualized. Resonance strips away the traditional boundaries of electronic music, replacing synthesized plucks with the live, soulful string work and percussive drive of Ugandan heritage. Listeners can expect a high-energy journey through deep house grooves, tech-house precision, and vibrant Afro-beats. "The world doesn't yet know the full depth of the melodies and genres we have in Uganda," says Ssewa Ssewa. "With this EP, we wanted to show that our traditional sounds aren't just museum pieces—they are built for the future of global music." Resonance is more than an EP; it is a live performance movement where roots meet the club circuit. The project will be available on all major streaming platforms.
